Sales Window
Downtown merchants will host sidewalk sales Thursday, July 30 through Saturday, August 1 as part of Yankee Homecoming week. The promotion is a long-standing tradition that draws visitors into Independent Street, State Street, and adjoining blocks.
Merchant Responsibilities
Participating businesses must:
- Keep a clear pedestrian path of at least the width required by City sidewalk display rules
- Secure displays against wind and foot traffic
- Remove outdoor goods promptly at closing
Displays may not block accessibility ramps, fire hydrants, or utility access panels.
Visitor Guidance
Shoppers should use crosswalks, watch for delivery vehicles, and respect residential driveways near the commercial core. Public restrooms and visitor information follow posted Homecoming signage.
City Role
Planning & Development coordinates display compliance with the Chamber and Downtown partners. Enforcement focuses on clear, safe sidewalks—not limiting legitimate sales.
