2025-12-05 — Water Department
The Newburyport Water Department has contracted with Water Safety Services, a local firm specializing in cross connection control and backflow prevention, to conduct testing of non-residential buildings throughout the city.
What is Cross Connection Control?
A cross connection is any connection between the public water supply and a potential source of contamination. Backflow prevention devices protect the public water supply from potential contamination.
Who is Affected?
All non-residential water service connections are required to have an approved backflow prevention device that is tested annually. This includes:
- Commercial buildings
- Industrial facilities
- Municipal buildings
- Multi-family residential buildings with more than 4 units
What to Expect
Property owners will receive notification from Water Safety Services to schedule testing. Please respond promptly to avoid service disruption.
