Trail Extension Overview
The City is pleased to announce that the design phase for the 1.8-mile Clipper City Rail Trail extension has been completed. The new section will connect the existing trail terminus at Hale Street to the Salisbury town line, creating continuous non-motorized access along the former Eastern Route railroad corridor.
Project Details
- Length: 1.8 miles of paved multi-use path (10 feet wide)
- Surface: Asphalt with granite dust shoulders
- Features: Two pedestrian bridges, trailhead parking at Parker Street, interpretive signage
- Cost: $4.2 million (80% federal/state funded, 20% local match)
- Timeline: Construction start fall 2026, completion late 2027
Public Input
The final design reflects feedback from three public meetings held in winter 2025-2026. Over 400 residents participated in the community engagement process.
