Brown School Abatement & Demolition Project Update

The Brown School demolition project has been temporarily paused pending the removal of additional asbestos material discovered in the central/original section of the building.

Current Status

The contractor has identified additional asbestos-containing materials that were not included in the original abatement scope. Work will resume once:

1. A revised abatement plan is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection
2. Additional abatement work is completed by a licensed contractor
3. Air monitoring confirms safe conditions for demolition to continue

Timeline

We anticipate the additional abatement work will take approximately 2-3 weeks. The overall project completion date may be adjusted accordingly.

Public Safety

Air quality monitoring continues throughout the project area. All readings remain well within safe levels for the surrounding neighborhood.
