Plum Island Beach Safety Advisory — Late July

Emergency Management

Sandy beach shoreline with summer visitors near the ocean

Advisory

Late-July heat typically increases Plum Island beach attendance. Emergency Management reminds visitors to swim only in designated areas when lifeguards are on duty and to heed posted flag warnings for surf conditions.

Rip Currents & Surf

If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore until free of the current, then return to land. Never attempt a rescue beyond your training—call 911 and alert lifeguards.

Parking & Neighborhood Access

  • Arrive early on weekends
  • Do not block residential driveways or fire lanes
  • Follow posted lot rules and resident sticker areas

Environment

Pack out trash, use recycling bins when available, and keep dogs leashed per posted regulations.
